  • While in Dartmouth today we stopped at a shop my sister knew and they had many stickers with local themes. I got a few to add to my laptop and lapdock.

  • Our intrepid Coldbrew Thunderhammer survived his third delve. He defeated a Vampire Queen and left with spoils. Rolls were more in my favour today, so I had a better experience in this play through of One-Shot Dungeon.

  • In his second outing, Coldbrew Thunderhammer barely made it out alive after a dungeon crawl ending in a battle with a Gargoyle. One-Shot Dungeon continues to be a tough but fun diversion.

  • HeroQuest's goblin miniatures are definitely among my least favorite depictions of goblins, but were one of my earliest exposures to the creatures.

  • I picked up One-Shot Dungeon this week and got around to playing it today. It's a dungeon crawling RPG built with 1d6 for all rolls and uses tables heavily to build and populate a dungeon. The simple mechanics make for a tough but fun game. Coldbrew Thunderhammer barely made it out alive after defeating a Chaos Warrior, but he'll live to delve again.

  • The latest episode of Literate Machine, "Superman and the Case for Open Borders", is a coherent takedown on anti-immigrant politics framed by the most recent Superman film.

  • I was given Sushi Go! years ago but today I finally sat down to play with Celestine. The cute cards and simple mechanics are big plusses. She bounced off the scoring and strategy, but I think it will eventually be a game we return to often.

  • Today we visited the Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity at Dalhousie University for the first time. It's a modest space but Celestine loved seeing the aquariums, whale skeleton, and other displays. Seeing hermit crabs swapping shells was a highlight. It was fun walking around campus and showing her where I lived during my first year studying there.

  • Nintendo's 2025 recap arrived yesterday. I spent most of the time playing in 2025 with Xenoblade Chronicles X. I still love that game.

Before it was released I played some of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and in November and December I played some of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but it was otherwise my most played game each month. It will probably remain my top game for 2026 as I still have the final chapter to play and no immediate desire to get a Switch 2 and move on to newer games.

  • Tonight I've been listening to the covers of Marit Larsen songs from the Norweigan show Hver gang vi møtes. It's so wonderful to see her get her flowers as the superb songwriter she has become.

Synne Vo's cover of "Under the Surface" is absolutely moving.
